Jackie's comment on writing the book:
I, for over ten years, have not written a book; basically because of my sons, Chad and Derek.  I did not want them to experience further pain.

And I didn't even think about Craig and Josh, the boys who shot me.  I hope that they can forgive themselves for telling the story.  I am writing this story in the hope that people will think about their choices.  I hope that they will see the good that it will do.  When you write a book, you think that it will only affect your kids; then you stop and think about all the others.

Routinely Jackie is asked if she has written a book. Because of her traumatic brain injury, she could not do so alone. But together, we have recreated her story. I have added my observations on this remarkable woman who in one breath tells me she has no memory of the execution-style shooting or subsequent events and, in the next, explains that she forgave the boys the minute they pulled the trigger, sending a hollow-point bullet spiraling through her brain. Is this an impossible contradiction? We explore that question.
